48th Annual Turf and Landscape Short Course with Inclement Weather

Author: Kenneth Clayton

Planning Unit: Plant and Soil Sciences

Major Program: Turfgrass

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The University of Kentucky Turfgrass Program in partnership the Kentucky Horticulture Council hosted the 48th Annual Turf and Landscape Short Course February 18th-20th, 2025 to provided continuing education for turfgrass professionals across the state of Kentucky. This event brought in university speakers from Kansas State University, Virginia Tech, University of Tennessee, and the University of Kentucky to provide up to date research based information to attendees. This is a unique event in the state that provides attendees to learn about the best turfgrass management practices without the bias of a distributor or manufacturer offering the training.

This year the attendance was impacted negatively due to a snowstorm that swept through Kentucky on the evening of the 18th and the 19th. We were able to make arrangements to ensure all of our speakers made it in safely and adjust the schedule so that as many as possible could safely attend the event. Additionally, because so many of the attendees are in lines of work that require them to provide snow removal services, we also offered two make up days via virtual webinars. We worked with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to ensure that attendees who could not make the original Short Course day and desired to do so were able to receive training and Continuing Education credits. This event remains the premier turfgrass conference in the state of Kentucky for 48 years and running.
