Success Story: Teaching About Climate & the Environment – Project WET, WILD, & Learning Tree Educator Workshop

(Agent In-Service Training)

A two-day workshop was conducted in February as part of agent in-service training. A total of 23 participants (4-H and ANR agents and assistants) were trained in the nationally known environmental education curriculums, Project Learning Tree, Project WET and Project WILD. In addition to the core educational training, the second day of the training provided additional training in the corresponding climate modules (Climate Water & Resilience (Project WET), Climate & Wildlife (Project WILD), & Southeastern Forests and Climate Change (PLT)) for each of the curriculums. The participants received the curriculum guides for PLT, WET and WILD plus material kits for easy implementation of several of the activities that were covered in the training.

Workshop instructors include Laurie Thomas, Katherine Bullock, Martha Yount, and Ashley Osborne.

Attendance for the two-day training was 23, 4-H and ANR agents and program assistants. All participants classified themselves as non-formal educators that worked with audiences ranging from kindergarten to adults.

In a survey of webinar participants (23 responses):

    • 100% said the training met or exceeded their expectations.
    • Speakers, topics, materials, and workshop format were rated highly (most respondents ranking them as excellent)
    • 95% said they felt prepared to use the curriculum with their clients.
    • 95% I would recommend this professional development event to a colleague.

Positive comments and feedback including ideas for future in-service trainings were shared and appreciation for the presentations provided.
