Describe the Issue or Situation.

On February 15, 2025 Floyd County along with Pike and Johnson county was hit with historic flooding. This came with flash flooding in southern Floyd County and followed with river flooding on February 16, 2025 that crested at 43.37 feet. This left hundreds in the county without power, safe drinking water, damaged and/or unlivable homes, and HVAC damage. 

The Floyd County Family & Consumer Science Agent reached out to all Family Resource Centers in the county to see what the immediate needs in the area was. The biggest need for southern Floyd County was safe drinking water. The southern part of the county had been a week without safe drinking water and was told it could be another two weeks until the issue was resolved. 

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

The Floyd County Family & Consumer Science Agent reached out to Christian Appalachian Project for water. From there, the Family & Consumer Science Agent was responsible for finding an insured company with a forklift. All arrangements were made for transportation, fork lift and volunteers for water to South Floyd Elementary School. Taylor Metal transported the water and Southern Water provided a fork lift for the distribution of water.

A total of 500 cases were delivered to South Floyd Elementary School and was provided to 132 families.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

With the immediate supply of water to families in the southern part of the county, a total of 132 families were able to have safe drinking water until water was restored. Numbers were of the cases of water was provided by Christian Appalachian Project and family outreach data was provided by the Family Resource Center.
