Reports have come from horse program volunteer leaders and extension agents about uncertainty about how to get started with a Hippology team in their county. This event worked to provide both content practice and resources for a successful introduction to Hippology.
Dr. Fernanda Camargo and I worked to create a single day Hippology clinic that would be affordable and helpful to youth, and volunteer leaders. We had guest speakers from UK, including myself, Dr. Hannah Tiffin, and agent assistant Stephanie Meredith. We also included an industry speaker, who is a licensed veterinarian and professional jockey. This event was the result of a partnership with the Kentucky Horse Park.
The event drew an overall total of about 125 individuals, with 64 of those being youth.
During the event, many were encouraged to create Hippology teams to bring to the state level competition. It also encouraged a point of contact between the leaders and myself. This year at the state knowledge contest that occurred 3 months later, we had a respectable participation from our junior division with 21 total youth participating.
