4-H Summer Camp

Planning Unit: Clark County CES
Major Program: Camping
Plan of Work: Targeting Life Skills and Family Lives
Outcome: Initial Outcome
In 2025, Clark County took 264 people to camp. This number includes 24 adults, 21 teens and 219 campers! The combined fundraising efforts of the Extension Agents for 4-H Youth Development, local school Family Resource Coordinators, and generous donations from our community allowed 51 youth to attend camp through scholarships. Many of the youth who received scholarships would not have been able to attend 4-H Summer Camp without the financial assistance.
During the week of 4-H Camp, youth participated in many activities including free swim, team and group activities, evening programs, and classes during the day. The classes that the campers participated in ranged from camp staff taught classes like canoeing, high ropes, archery, recreation, outdoor living, swimming, and several others, as well as classes taught by volunteers like outdoor cooking, crafts, painting, woodworking, sewing, sports, shotgun, and many others. Campers were able to learn new skills while taking these classes, many campers took classes at camp that allowed them new experiences that they otherwise would not have had.
Campers also experience group living while at camp and staying in the cabin with other campers around the same age and gender as well as teen and adult counselors who provide leadership and a safe environment for the campers.
4-H Summer camp allows youth to develop skills, learn to communicate effectively with each other and with leaders, and have fun in a positive and safe way.
Prior to 4-H Camp, both teen and adult counselors receive training to ensure that they are prepared to supervise and assist the youth and make the week of camp the best possible for everyone attending.
