Super Star Chef Day Camp Serves Up Success in Elliott County
The Elliott County Extension Office recently hosted a Super Star Chef Day Camp, and it was a sizzling success! Young chefs from across the county came together to learn essential kitchen skills, healthy eating habits, and food safety practices in a fun, hands-on environment.
Over the course of the camp, participants gained real confidence in the kitchen. An impressive 92.8% of students demonstrated they could safely use a kitchen knife, learning proper techniques and precautions. Campers also sharpened their nutrition knowledge, with 64% correctly identifying the food groups on MyPlate, helping them make balanced and informed meal choices.
In a major highlight, 100% of participants mastered the skill of reading food labels, a crucial step toward building healthy lifelong habits. Additionally, all students learned how to safely position pots and pans on the stove, preventing accidents and ensuring a safe cooking space.
Thanks to hands-on activities, supportive instructors, and a lot of enthusiasm, these young chefs are leaving camp more prepared to take on their own kitchens — with safety, nutrition, and fun in mind!
We’re proud of these Super Star Chefs and can’t wait to see what they cook up next!
