Plan of Work: Healthy life style choices make for a happy, healthy life
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Describe the Issue or Situation. International Night is an opportunity for homemakers to gain insight to another part of our world. Our speaker (a Lewis County homemaker), had traveled to Pakistan, lived as folks in Pakistan live, ate the same food and came home with a wealth of information. She shared pictures of children at sewing machines, what a bathroom looked like (& how you were expected to clean before your departure) and how closely knit families were. She shared about how she would love to return to this country and continue sharing her ministry.
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable). It is imperative to understand cultural differences. People in other countries dress, eat, live, keep house, celebrate holidays differently than the American people. Though our audience was sparce, people went away talking about what they had seen through photos and a little touch of differences in living conditions. In describing the ladies' clothing, scarves are worn, wrapped a couple times around their necks to keep their hair free from dust. The garment is neck to ankle.
Each club represented prepared a recipe from Pakistan for the audience to sample. Attached: Indian Spiced Pumpkin Chai Latte. We also prepared Broccoli Brunch Casserole (Plate It Up Recipe).
Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience. 15 guests (active Lewis County Homemakers) attended this gathering
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.
Learning of another country's way of life brings not only awareness, but also thankfulness to our American customs. One example from the presentation was standing over the area of the commode placed on the floor, a 5 gallon bucket closeby with a scrubbing brush and water supply to ensure that each user left the facility as clean as they found it. When visiting bathrooms in roadside parks, gas stations, etc, we often find a disgusting mess because no one feels it's their responsibility to clean it. In Pakistan, it appears everyone carries the responsibility of cleanliness.
