Major Program: Turfgrass
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
In early July, 60 participants from the turfgrass industry gathered for the first turfgrass field day offered by the University of Kentucky in over four years. Kenneth Clayton, Extension Associate Senior, partnered with the Kentuckian Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Southeastern Turfgrass Research Center, a private research center in Lexington, KY, to host this field day. Attendees and vendors were present to learn about the latest advances in the turfgrass industry and learn about available products at a tailgate trade show. Topics included fungicide resistance, weed control, insect control, and nutrient management. Additionally onsite demonstrations of equipment were present with the highlight being advances in autonomous mowing units for mowing golf course fairways. In a difficult labor market, these machines were of great interest. Attendees were able to obtain CEUs to maintain their pesticide licenses as well as learn the latest in turfgrass management and technology during this full day event.
