Move Your Way

Planning Unit: Caldwell County CES

Major Program: Active Living and Health Promotions General

Plan of Work: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Physical activity plays a vital role in maintaining overall health and greatly supports both physical and mental well-being. In Kentucky, there's an ongoing need to encourage more active lifestyles among families. According to the CDC, 29.7% of Kentucky adults reported no physical activity in the previous month, and only 21.4% of children and teens were active for at least 60 minutes daily during the week prior to the survey.

To help address this need, the Caldwell County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent taught the Move Your Way program. The lesson was presented to 39 adults and 19 youths across nine counties in the Pennyrile Area. Adult participants shared what they learned with their local homemaker club members, expanding the program’s impact.

Sixty-nine individuals completed program evaluations. As a result:

  • 81% reported improved understanding of the three types of physical activity
  • 52% gained greater awareness of how physical activity benefits overall health
  • 67% felt more confident in identifying ways to stay active

Looking ahead, 90% of participants plan to increase their physical activity, and 83% intend to apply the tools provided to incorporate more movement into their daily routines. As one participant remarked, “I really needed this lesson right now!”
