Describe the Issue or Situation.
Kentucky Cooperative Extension is a unique collaboration between two land-grant universities—the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University. Together, Extension is committed to delivering research-based education and evidence-based programming that benefits communities across the Commonwealth.
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).
Recognizing the limited opportunities for collective professional development among Extension professionals—including county agents, faculty, specialists, coordinators, associates, and administrators—a joint State Extension Conference was held from March 3–5, 2025. This event was designed to provide a meaningful and impactful experience for both campus-based and county-based professionals.
Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.
The conference brought together 680 Extension professionals from across the state to:
• Cultivate innovative ideas and best practices
• Connect with colleagues and build professional networks
• Celebrate the shared impact of Extension work
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.
Highlights of the event included:
- Two dynamic keynote speakers who delivered inspiring talks on self-care and navigating professional challenges.
- Over 60 concurrent and symposium sessions that showcased exemplary programs and offered core professional development across a wide range of topics.
- A poster session that encouraged program sharing and peer learning.
Feedback from attendees underscored the success of the event. In post-conference evaluations:
- 84% of respondents rated the overall experience as favorable or highly favorable.
- 74% rated the concurrent sessions as good or very good.
Participants emphasized the value of networking, meeting new colleagues, gaining fresh ideas, and hearing from engaging speakers. The dedication and hard work of the 44-member planning committee were instrumental in making the event a success—and they should take great pride in their accomplishment.
This conference not only strengthened professional connections but also laid a strong foundation for future collaboration and continued growth within Kentucky Cooperative Extension.
