Plan of Work: Enhance Youth Life Skills in Leadership and Personal Development
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Grayson County 4-H camp numbers hit their peak again for the 2025 summer session! Beginning in January, when students returned to school from the holiday break, the agent began promoting camp at all elementary schools. By mid-February, allocated spots were full and waiting list began. Nearly 60 of the 106 current campers are first time attendees. The agent is able to provide monthly programming to all fourth-grade classes in the county, as well as many of the third and fifth grades, which provide a large part of the target camp age group. Those that are not visited in person receive camp information to take home to parents as well as heavy promotion on social media. Prior year campers also receive an opportunity to register before information is taken to the schools.
Through the incredible support of the Grayson County EDB, they cover 75% of the educational programming fees per camper which allows the agent to only charge $75 per youth. The EDB also covers the expense of the buses to transport the campers to Dawson Springs. Community organizations, like GC Cattlemen's Association, GC Homemaker's Association, local NWTF, continue to make supporting donations to help those that may still need financial assistance. The 4-H Agent also received a sponsorship grant this year from Grayson County Healthcare Foundation to cover the cost of all shirts for the youth and volunteers as 4-H Camp provides many physical, mental, and social health benefits to the participants.
