According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the early years of a child’s life are very important for later health and development, and parents and caregivers need support and the right resources to aid in that development. The Area Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences partnered with the Simpson County Health Coalition to provide a Community Baby Shower for new and expecting parents in Simpson County. Families received resources from many community partners, including those to track developmental milestones and tips on reaching out for assistance with their children’s development. Additionally, the event sought to connect families with community organizations that could help meet basic needs. 82 participants indicated intent to seek support from local community organizations and/or individual community members when needed. One participant commented as she left "I was worried about [providing] for my baby, but after today, I feel more [confident] I can do that."
