4-H Cloverbud Camp
Author: Bridgett Poteet
Planning Unit: Edmonson County CES
Major Program: Camping
Plan of Work: 4-H Youth Development
Outcome: Initial Outcome
On June 20-22, the 4-H agent, Cloverbuds, and parents from the Edmonson County embarked for the West Kentucky 4-H Camp grounds to meet with 16 other counties for a few days of fun-filled activities, games, and opportunities to learn new skills. As an agent on the planning committee, it was exciting to see the biggest group of campers from Edmonson County but also the biggest group Cloverbud Camp has ever housed before. There were 227 campers/adults that attended Cloverbud Camp.
From Edmonson County there were 11 youth, 8 adults, and 1 agent that attended camp. This was one of the largest groups at camp.
Last year, Edmonson County brought 7 campers and 5 adults to camp. This was the first year Edmonson County had attended Cloverbud Camp is many years. Furthermore, set a record for attendance for both years in our county.
The Cloverbud Camp theme was Once Upon A Time and themed around fairy tales. Camp staff really went the extra mile this year to provide a multitude of activities for our campers! Campers were able to pick classes from crafts, hammocks, boating, fishing, indoor cooking (Snap-Ed), nature, swimming, low ropes, recreation, and many more! Not to mention the daily recreation activities, swimming, dance party, and camp favorite GaGa ball! Each night ended with specialized activities from Scavenger Hunt, Wet-n-Wild Water Night, and Glo Sally. Each camper went home with a story book from camp as well.
Our 4-H Council and District Board went above and beyond for all of our campers. The 4-H Council provided goody bags with snacks and a ticket for a free popcorn/snow cone, water and electrolyte drinks in the cabins, and all the supplies for the craft class in honor of Susie Vincent. Cloverbud families also participated in the fundraisers that raised $800 towards camp fees for each individual camper. Edmonson County Public Library provided a book about summer camp for each of our youth campers that attended!
We can't wait to go back next year with more of our friends!
