Superstar Chef is fun to teach and impactful to lives!
Students attended the 3-day cooking camp for children aged 11-13 years old at the cooperative extension office. Superstar Chef is a program developed to teach children Kitchen safety, food safety, food nutrition, how to read and follow a recipe/ instruction, knife skills, how to properly wash hands and dishes.
In the students’ post survey, they claim to be more confident in the kitchen and in preparing food for the family. Students say they learned how to properly use a knife to cut fruits and vegetables, measure ingredients.
After participating in the superstar chef cooking camp 80% of students can identify healthy foods. Half of the students plan to drink more water. Half of the students plan to drink less soda. After participating in the superstar chef program, Half of participants plan to be more physically active and 40% plan to eat more fruits and vegetables. 50% of students that participated plan to try new foods.
The students said their favorite part was learning the knife skills and most participants were surprised to learn how much sugar was in their favorite sodas and drinks like flavored milk and sports drinks.
