Major Program: Agriculture
Plan of Work: Enhance the Strong Agicultural and Natural Resource Base
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Lawrence County 4-H hosted a two-day “Down on the Farm” themed Cloverbud Camp, offering 36 youth ages 5–8 an engaging introduction to agriculture through hands-on activities. Campers explored the world of farming by participating in fun, educational experiences including a cow milking simulator, planting their own seeds, creating pool noodle stick horses, & churning homemade butter. One exciting highlight was a live observation beehive, where campers learned about the importance of bees in pollination and food production. We ended the camp with a sweet treat—fresh ice cream from a local food truck
The camp focused on providing age-appropriate agricultural education that sparked curiosity and encouraged learning through play. Lawrence County 4-H partnered with Mountain Comprehensive Care, who brought 19 youth from their program to participate. Five teen leaders also helped lead activities and serve as positive role models for younger campers.
One parent commented, “So much fun for these kiddos & they learned so much!” Post-camp feedback showed that youth gained a better understanding of where food comes from and how farms function.
By combining fun with farm-focused learning, Cloverbud Camp helped lay the foundation for agricultural literacy and youth engagement in Lawrence County.
