Author: Rebecca Miller

Planning Unit: Bell County CES

Major Program: Aging-General

Plan of Work: Improve physical and mental health

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

According to the CDC each year millions of older adults ages 65 or older fall causing a restriction in their activities for a day or more. One of the top priorities from the recent needs assessment done by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension identified wanting more programs and access to well-being resources.

To address falls and to help our community feel more comfortable with daily activities and limiting falls, Bingocize was implemented. Bingocize is a 10 week, 20 sessions evidence-based health promotion program that combines the game of Bingo with exercise.

11 participants registered for the fall prevention class and 6 completed 16 or more sessions. The group engaged in a variety of exercises from strengthening, balance and endurance.

Written evaluations concluded that:

100% feel more comfortable increasing their activity.

95% have made modifications in their homes to reduce the risk of falls

100% feel more satisfied with their life.
