Major Program: Leadership
Plan of Work: Empowering Youth to Reach Their Full Potential
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
A recent study shows that youth involved in 4-H feel that out-of-school programs are 77% more likely than school programs to give them confidence. Additionally, 62% of 4-H youth report that programs like 4-H help them manage stress more effectively. Even more inspiring, 70% of 4-H teens feel prepared to apply both technical and life skills in their careers after high school.
This year, Lyon County 4-H celebrates the graduation of five high school seniors who exemplify these statistics—and more. Each of these seniors has been part of the Lyon County 4-H program for nine or more years, demonstrating their long-term dedication and commitment to personal growth and community service.
Every member of this senior class participated in at least one leadership activity, confidently assessing their own leadership skills. Each can also recognize the basic parts of a speech—a testament to their growth in public speaking—and can identify and address community needs. Beyond that, 100$ of the senior group learned a new skill through their involvement in 4-H, proving that hands-on learning is at the heart of the program’s success.
Their community spirit shines just as brightly. 100% of the seniors took part in a community service project through 4-H, giving back to Lyon County in meaningful ways. This group served as TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use) program presenters, camp counselors, teen club officers, teen leadership council members, and even area 4-H officers. Their commitment to 4-H has helped the program grow and thrive.
Earlier this spring, the seniors also participated in the Beyond Ready signing, an event that highlights their readiness for life after high school thanks to the skills they gained through Lyon County 4-H.
Looking ahead, the impact of Lyon County 4-H continues: 100% of the seniors plan to volunteer for the program after high school, ensuring that their leadership and dedication will inspire the next generation of Lyon County youth.
This senior group has proven that Lyon County 4-H not only builds skills—it builds leaders who are truly Beyond Ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
