Describe the Issue or Situation. Pollinator Week will be celebrated from June 16-21st. As the former recipient of the 2010 Pollinator Advocate of the Year (this is an international award), I was asked to help coordinate pollinator activities to celebrate this week in Lexington and Frankfort. I wrote an article to distribute, also highlighting the 2024 Pollinator Highway Management winners (the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet). This article was published in the Lexington Herald-Leader on May 23, 2025: https://www.kentucky.com/opinion/op-ed/article306997566.html
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable). I work with the Fayette County Cooperative Extension program to update the website, PollinatorLex.com.
Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.
There are 348,000 readers of the Lexington Herald Leader. The article will be reprinted in the Kentucky State Beekeepers Association June edition, and it has 600 members. Plus, I posted the link to my facebook page, and I have approximately 2500 "friends," although I did not count these numbers.
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach. I have no data to describe a change has occurred in individuals at this point in time. There will be data from the number of attendees in June. The article is to educate the public about these events, coordinate them into easily-found websites, and encourage others to create their own events in communities around KY.
