Describe the Issue or Situation.

In Logan County, youth often express interest in starting their own businesses, but lack access to structured opportunities to learn the essential skills needed to turn their ideas into successful ventures. With limited local resources focused on youth entrepreneurship, there was a clear need for a program that could introduce business basics in an engaging and age-appropriate way, helping students develop confidence and real-world skills.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

In response to this need, the 2025 Logan County 4-H Entrepreneurship Workshop was implemented to provide a hands-on, interactive learning experience for young people interested in business ownership. The program was developed in collaboration with local business mentors such as Farm Credit Mid America, Haley Auction and Realty, and the Chamber of Commerce. The workshop included sessions on creating Budget and Business Plans, understanding Marketing and Social Media strategies, mastering Communication and Customer Service, identifying characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, crafting Elevator Speeches, and designing professional business cards using Canva. Each session was designed to equip participants with both knowledge and practical tools to take the first steps toward launching their own businesses.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

The workshop engaged 25 youth participants ranging in ages from 9 to 17. The group included elementary, middle, and high school students from diverse backgrounds, all of whom shared a common interest in entrepreneurship. Many participants came with early-stage ideas for products or services, including handmade crafts, lawn care services, foods, jewelry, agriculture production, and digital creation. Some had already begun informal business efforts in the community.

As a result of the workshop, participants reported increased confidence in their ability to start and manage a small business. Post-workshop evaluations showed a significant increase in understanding of core business concepts, including budgeting, marketing strategies, and customer service principles. 100% of the participants that participated in the post evaluation said the entrepreneur workshop gave them practical skills they can use beyond 4-H. Participants demonstrated their learning by creating and presenting elevator speeches and designing their own business cards using Canva.

Additionally, 100% of participants either already operate a small business or have solid plans to launch one in the near future. The program not only sparked entrepreneurial spirit but also fostered practical goal setting and follow-through, contributing to a culture of innovation and self-reliance among Logan County 4-H youth.
