Major Program: Local Food Systems
Plan of Work: Horticulture Production Practices
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The demand for locally grown food continues to rise across Kentucky, and Bourbon County’s horticulture program is helping meet that need through targeted education and outreach.
To date, the program has delivered over 20 educational events, including classroom lessons, field demonstrations, and presentations for both adult and youth audiences. Additionally, more than 100 one-on-one consultations have been provided to address local food systems-related questions and topics—from backyard gardening and small-scale production to marketing and food safety.
These efforts have engaged over 300 individuals, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to grow, harvest, and promote locally sourced food. By connecting community members with practical tools and science-based resources, the horticulture program continues to strengthen Bourbon County’s local food network and support sustainable food production for the future.
