“Whenever I think of 4-H, I think of happiness, fun and youthfulness. I believe that 4-H is not just for young children, it brings out the youth and happiness in adults just as it did when they were children. As I have experienced, as you get older people think that 4-H is only for elementary school students, but many people don’t see the true meaning of 4-H. 4-H to me is meant to teach students how be a role model all throughout life. It teaches them life lessons that they carry with them into adulthood. Settings examples is an important part of being a role model, and I believe 4-H’s main goal is to teach students that no matter how old they are or how young they are, that they can set good examples and teach other friends and family to do the right thing.
4-H has done many different things for me; it has taught me to be a role model, be myself, be confident, be independent, and has given me social interaction. All these things I have learned throughout the years of 4-H. The main thing that 4-H has taught me is to go “outside my bubble” Before 4-H I was shy, quiet girl who really didn’t talk to many people. Once I joined 4-H, it got me to socialize and talk to people in my classroom, because of this I now have friends that I’m going to keep for the rest of my life. I have learned that when you push yourself to do something that you’re not used to, or comfortable with, you go outside of your boundaries and tell yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to. When you do this, your world is full of possibilities, and you can succeed in anything!” Jessika S.
