Agricultural Adventure Day

Author: Alivia Faris

Planning Unit: Scott County CES

Major Program: Build Engaged and Empowered Communities – General

Plan of Work: Natural Resources Education, Adaptation, & Sustainability

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Scott County elementary students had the unique opportunity to connect with Kentucky agriculture during Ag Adventure Day, a one-day educational event designed to introduce young learners to the impact of agriculture on their daily lives. The program welcomed more than 700 students from all elementary schools across the county.

With the support of nearly 30 agriculture-related businesses and nonprofit organizations, students explored a wide range of topics including food production, animal science, environmental stewardship, and agricultural technology. The interactive format allowed students to rotate through engaging stations featuring farm equipment, livestock, honeybees, forestry, aquaculture, and more.

The program aimed to build awareness of where food and other everyday products come from, while also highlighting the many career opportunities available in the agriculture industry. Through hands-on demonstrations and activities, students gained a better understanding of how agriculture touches nearly every part of their lives.

The Scott County Cooperative Extension Service played a key role in the success of the event by leading educational sessions, providing supplies, and supporting overall coordination. Their involvement helped ensure that each student’s experience was both educational and memorable.

Ag Adventure Day successfully fostered curiosity, strengthened classroom learning, and connected students with the local agricultural community. By engaging young minds early, the program helps build a foundation for informed citizens and potential future leaders in agriculture.
