Understanding Diabetes

Author: Delaney Eubanks

Planning Unit: Jackson County CES

Major Program: Active Living and Health Promotions General

Plan of Work: Individuals know and practice good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In 2023, over 482,000 Kentucky adults were diagnosed with diabetes. CDC research has shown that 29% of diabetes cases are undiagnosed, meaning 139,780 additional adults are undiagnosed. Recognizing the sympotms of diabetes, how diabetes works, and how to prevent and treat diabetes can help indivuduals. Jackson County FCS Agent Delaney Eubanks presented the program Understanding Diabetes to thirty-three Wilderness Trail Area Homemaker Club Leaders. Out of thirty-three participants, 100% were able to identify diabetes symptoms, define diabetes terminology, diabetes risk factors, and ways to manage a diabetes diagnosis. Because this was taught as a Homemaker Leader Lesson, now these Homemakers can continue diabetes education and awareness to members of their clubs and communities.
