Major Program: Beef

Plan of Work: Beef Production and Good Stewards of the Land

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Adequate mineral consumption in beef cattle is very important to the health of the animal and the production of the animal. Lee County cattle producers sells around $2,000,000.00 of beef each year.  The past several years I have noticed that many of the beef producers in Lee County does not provide year round, appropriate  mineral for their beef heard. Many of these same producers have reported low weight gains and poor reproduction rates. 12 beef farmers where involved in a hands on Beef mineral educational program in the spring of 2018. 10 of them did not provide year round mineral for their beef heard, all 12 did not provide the adequate blend of mineral to meet the needs of their heard. Form a phone survey 8 of the 12 have changed to a more balanced year round mineral program. More results will be available in the years to come.
