Success StoryNo Till Drill

No Till Drill

Author: Carol Hinton

Planning Unit: Breckinridge County CES

Major Program: Forages

Plan of Work: Promoting commodities and awareness of agriculture and natural resources

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Describe the Issue or Situation.

Farmers and homeowners have been recovering from several years of over grazing and over cutting  pastures and hay fields.  With very little time to put in new forages.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

Producers have increased their utilization of the Cooperative Extension Service no till drill.  The drill has been rented by new producers and homeowners.  The drill went over 300 more acres in 2024 than in 2023.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

The drill was rented by 28 farmers and homeowners.  The drill is rented for $10/acre which allows the producer a way to renovate fields and improve overall health of their animals and increase hay production and hay quality.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

The Breckinridge County Extension District Board has applied for KADF funding to purchase and maintain a no till drill.  This is the third drill that they have purchased, traded in and started new when the drill reaches 3000 acres.  This drill reached over 3000 acres in half the amount of time than previous drills.  Over 3000 acres have been renovated with the no till drill that is presently in operation.
