Planning Unit: Barren County CES
Major Program: Agriculture
Plan of Work: Promote Healthy Financial Behaviors
Outcome: Initial Outcome
The mission of Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is to “provide education, training and resources to make farm, ranch, and rural life safer for children and their communities.” The Barren County 4-H Progressive Agriculture Safety Day provided five hundred fourth grade students with the practical hands on knowledge to think safety first in a variety of situations including: Water/Wildlife, Lawn mowing, Vaping/Drug, Bus, Fire, First Aid, Shooting Sports, Food and Nutrition, Personal and Power Tool Safety. Professionals, community leaders and 4-H teen leaders taught the twenty minute classes. This is an important opportunity to capture the youth attention in a fun learning environment. The ultimate goal is to provide a safety mind-set for all of students and remember those safety tips in the future
Seventeen 4-H and community leaders served on the planning committee. Fifteen Barren County 4-H Teen leaders served as presenters, group leaders and helped with set-up and take down. Twenty-four 4th grade teachers presented safety instruction before attending the Safety Day Camp. 100% of the 4th Graders were very excited about the program and learned something new. One teacher ask if we could do a 4-H Safety Day Camp for 7th and 8th Grade students. The Principal said “That is a Great idea”. So plans are underway to conduct another Safety Day Camp in the Spring of 2025 concentrating on sessions to meet the needs of middle school students.
