Teen Retreat

Author: Samantha Gamblin

Planning Unit: Bullitt County CES

Major Program: Leadership

Plan of Work: Develop Individuals for Volunteer Roles and Leadership Positions

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The purpose of Kentucky 4-H Retreat is to retain youth involvement in 4-H activities through the middle and high school years, along with empowering youth to become active 4-H leaders on the local and state levels. Objectives of Kentucky 4-H Retreat are to provide youth from Area C5/C6 with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through acquiring new knowledge to take back and implement within their local communities. Youth have the opportunity to belong to a group of peers and expand teamwork skills, exercise communication skills through networking with other 4-H’ers, and foster relationships with role models through the Kentucky 4-H State Teen Council and Agents. The Area event attracted 64 4-H’ers, 14 volunteers. Bullitt County brought 12 4-Her's, recruited through in school clubs and members who have attended in the past.

Youth who attended from Bullitt County reported they created a broad base of youth throughout the state who have developed leadership skills.Learned from fun and innovative leadership workshops that allowed them to take back a wealth of resources and information to your local teen program. Also, the Teen Retreat provided a time for them to meet people from very diverse backgrounds and make lasting friendships. It built a bond for when they travel together to State Teen Conference.
