Outcome: Initial Outcome
Cook Together Eat Together has made a big difference for families in Menifee County. This program, hosted by the Menifee County Nutrition Education Program Assistant Senior and the Menifee County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent, helped 5 participants including parents, grandparents and children cook healthy meals together.
According to the American Heart Association, 91% of parents feel less stressed when their family eats together. This program aimed to reduce stress and improve eating habits by bringing families into the kitchen.
Over six weeks, the participants improved 100% in diet quality, food resource management, physical activity and food safety. They learned essential skills such as cooking at home, comparing food prices, planning meals, checking their pantry before shopping, and making shopping lists.
One youth participant said that he enjoyed the classes and learned valuable skills he will continue to use in the kitchen. He also enjoyed the hands-on activities the classes offered to prepare recipes.
