Plan of Work: Develop Individuals for Volunteer Roles and Community Leadership
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Describe the Issue or Situation
Homemaker officers play a vital role in the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) by supporting the organization’s mission and leading local clubs. However, many officers need training and support to fully understand their responsibilities, confidently perform their roles, and effectively manage club activities. A need was identified for a comprehensive training program to equip officers with the knowledge and skills necessary for success.
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable)
To address this need, Extension agents in the Quicksand Area organized and led a Homemaker Officer Training. The program began with a group session, where all participants came together to learn about general topics, including:
- Reasoning behind KEHA
- Different roles within KEHA
- Marketing homemakers to grow club membership.
- Tracking and reporting volunteer hours.
- Preparing and submitting KEHA reports.
- Reviewing important KEHA dates and the state meeting.
After the group discussions, participants transitioned into smaller breakout sessions tailored to their specific officer roles. These role-focused groups provided an opportunity for officers to dive deeper into their individual responsibilities, ask questions, and share strategies with peers in similar positions.
The training also served as an excellent opportunity for officers to network with fellow leaders across the Quicksand Area, fostering collaboration, camaraderie, and a stronger sense of shared purpose.
Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience
The training was attended by 17 homemaker officers representing eight counties in the Quicksand Area. These individuals hold leadership roles in their local clubs and are responsible for managing KEHA activities and initiatives at the county level.
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact
The training had a significant impact on participants, as demonstrated by evaluation data:
- Knowledge Gains: Participants reported substantial improvements in their understanding of key topics. On a 4-point scale:
- KEHA programming emphases for 2024-2025: Increased from 1.65 (pre-program) to 3.81 (post-program).
- Reviewing KEHA reports and membership campaigns: Improved from 1.71 to 3.81.
- Important KEHA dates: Rose from 1.69 to 3.88.
- Behavior Changes:
- 100% of participants stated they plan to share the information learned with their club members.
- 94% indicated they would confidently use the knowledge to fulfill their leadership roles.
- Satisfaction Ratings: Participants expressed high satisfaction with the training:
- 88% agreed or strongly agreed that the presentation was easy to understand.
- 82% felt the information was directly applicable to their roles.
- 88% rated the program as highly educational overall.
This program equipped officers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to successfully lead their clubs and promote KEHA's mission. By fostering growth and collaboration among officers, the program ensures stronger clubs, better leadership, and a greater community impact.
