Success Story Reviving 4-H Teen Leadership

Reviving 4-H Teen Leadership

Author: Verlene Congleton

Planning Unit: Jackson County CES

Major Program: Leadership 4-H Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Leadership and Community Development

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Jackson County 4-H Council Leaders along with the local Youth/Family Resource Centers wanted teens to become more involved in leadership and community development opportunities outside of the school classroom. For several years there had not been a local organized 4-H teen club.  Council members suggested to invite 4-H Campers who 'aged' out of the camping program to the teen activities and see if these youth who had a 4-H background would want to revive the 4-H Teen Club.  This year in 2018 two Jackson County teen delegates attended 4-H Teen Summit, Four teens served as 4-H Junior Camp Counselors and one served as a 4-H Camp Teen Leader and Four Teens served as delegates during the 4-H Teen Conference at the University of Kentucky campus this year. These teens have many plans and activities that they would like to achieve this coming year and have even expressed interest in running as a State 4-H Officer.
