Success StoryWheelbarrow Series

Wheelbarrow Series

Author: James Morgeson

Planning Unit: Washington County CES

Major Program: Home & Consumer Horticulture

Plan of Work: Increasing Agricultural Systems In Washington County

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Gardener’s Wheelbarrow Series classes continue to be very popular with 2017-2018 attendance of over 400 hundred people! Each year there is a new sampling of classes with topics coming from requests by the public or from what the Horticulture agent feels the public needs to know about.  A sampling of the classes in 2017-2018  included hands on apple grafting, growing raspberries in Kentucky, tender bulbs dahlias and glads, easy care roses, hands on weed id and control, and much more.  There were 25 topics taught twice morning and evening to accomadate the most peoples busy schedules. Just a couple Facebook and email feedback from this class included the following. Rita Milburn stated: Planted Raspberries April 13 - first picking on June 13th,  and yes they are sweet!  I got them before my chickens too!  Thanks for all you do Dennis!  Another comment from Abby Cool:  Look what I just picked! Strawberries are hanging all over the plants. It broke my heart to pinch the blooms off last year but Dennis was right. The plants are so healthy now. And there are so many more than I started with because the runners took root. If you don't attend the Wheelbarrow series classes thru the extension office you should! I got these strawberry plants last year when I took the class on strawberries and their care. Dennis Morgeson is the instructor in the wheelbarrow series classes. He is very knowledgeable and enjoys what he does. You learn how to care for all your plants. Garden vegetables included!
