Kerri Ashurst and David Weisenhorn facilitated a 30-minute Facebook Live session hosted through Washington County Extension Office's Facebook Page on April 24, 2018 as a way to help educate about child abuse during the designated National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The segment provided educational content on the types of abuse, the purpose of a designated month for Child Abuse prevention, Kentucky statistics on child abuse, reasons abuse happens, ways that parents/caregivers can reduce the risk of abuse, how to report suspected abuse, and how we can all work to prevent abuse. The Facebook Live segment reached 2,408 people total with 82 reactions and 11 comments. Eighteen different people shared the segment on other Facebook pages, greatly expanding its reach. A total of 65 of the people it reach went on to click other pages, a secondary outcome worth mentioning because it drives traffic to county Extension pages. The primary entity in Kentucky for child abuse prevention -- Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky -- saw the segment and commented, "Great information! Thanks, Dr. Ashurst and Dr. Weinsenhorn for your work to bring awareness to these issues and point KY’s citizens towards prevention! "
