A pumpkin patch success.
Livingston County ANR played a helpful role in our local pumpkin patch. Mr. Bobby Davidson came to Livingston County Extension for assistance with developing a pumpkin patch as another form of income for his family. Bobby wanted to provide a family friendly, local source of pumpkins and create a fun retail space for the community. Livingston county ANR recognized the importance of variety, and worked closely with Mr. Davidson to select pumpkin types that would cater to customers’ preferences. They chose varieties from tiny decorative gourds to large carving pumpkins. Livingston county ANR then guided Mr. Davidson though the entire process, starting with soil testing to determine the right fertilizer application for optimal growth. Additionally, Livingston ANR helped design a fungicide and herbicide plan tailored to ensure the healthiest crop possible.
After a lot of hard work and preparation, the pumpkin patch flourished, and Mr. Davidson proudly opened his retail space. The space quickly became the place to go for eager families to purchase the perfect pumpkin for fall festivities. This is a testament to how Extension and community collaboration can transform an idea into a fun local business.
