4-H Volunteer Leadership and Support Recognition

Author: Paula Jerrell

Planning Unit: Ballard County CES

Major Program: Administrative Functions

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Describe the Issue or Situation.

Ballard County is blessed with a long tradition of 4-H volunteer leaders. In the last 30 years it has increased even more. We also have a strong tradition of financial support from the county as well.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

This is evidenced in the number of clubs we have now and the number of donors and the amount of donations received each year.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

We have 12 different clubs that are leader led and 7 in school clubs led by the 4-H Agent. We feel that is significant in our small county.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

Our Ballard County summary of the year includes the following:

442 4-Hers through clubs, school enrichment, camping and more.

752 4-Hers with duplications. So several 4-Hers had more than one 4-H experience.

We had the following numbers this past year. And our slide show puts faces to these numbers.

183 in afterschool and/or community clubs with duplications

                173 in school clubs

330 in school enrichment like Leadership Ballard, Reality Store and Truth and Consequences

                46 campers

We have 101 volunteers that have worked directly with youth in some capacity including clubs, camp and enrichment. We have 19 leaders working directly with youth on a monthly basis in clubs outside of school.

For our little county of just over 7,000 people, we feel that’s pretty good. We reach 47% of all the school age youth in Ballard County. And we reach 72% of the 4-H age youth.
