On my recent trip to western North Carolina I saw firsthand the extensive water and wind damage for hurricane Helene.  I coordinated with Susan Kelly, NC Extension, to assist in 3 counties impacted by the storm. 

Day one I worked with the Watauga Co. Extension folks at a distribution site near Boone, NC.  Hay, feed, and farm supplies were received and distributed from this site.  I had contact with 50 people that day (15 female, 35 male, 2 Hispanic, 1 American Indian).

Day two I worked at the Mountain Horticulture Research Center in Mills River, NC.  I had contact with 20 people there (6 female, 14 male).  This was another distribution site for hay, feed, and farm supplies.

Day three I worked at a farm in Rutherford Co.  This was another distribution site for hay, feed, and farm supplies.  I had contact with 15 people there (3 female, 12 male).  I spent most of my time moving donated water and feed from another location to this distribution site and moving hay and supplies on site.

Day four I presented an educational program (Kentucky Furbearers) to a group of elementary students at Tabernacle Christian Academy in Hickory, NC.  There were 46 students total in the group and 9 adults.  Gender was 27 female and 28 male.  Of these, there were 3 black, 8 Latino, and 13 disabled students.  The disabled students are enrolled in the Hope Allan Center for Excellent Children, a ministry of the Tabernacle Baptist Church for special needs students.
