Outcome: Initial Outcome
The Clark County Family & Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development Extension Agents partnered to offer the SuperStar Chef Camp program to 18 youth. These agents along with four volunteers, including one Extension Homemaker, worked with students in a hands-on educational setting to teach important life skills. Topics covered included measuring, knife, and cooking skills along with nutrition lessons. The camp was over the course of three days and was held at the Clark County Extension Office. A pre-test/post test evaluation was conducted to determine learning outcomes.
As a result of the program, students gained the following knowledge and skills:
-100% recognized foods that are part of the protein group.
-100% identified the right way to hold a knife.
-100% identified the right way to guide food when using a knife.
-94% identified how germs get transferred to food.
-100% identified the four steps to safe food.
-89% identified how to read nutrition labels.
