Major Program: Financial Education - General
Plan of Work: Enhance Life Skills and Workforce Development
Outcome: Initial Outcome
In the current economy, financial stability is important. That stability rests with families securing and managing their basic human needs of food, clothing, and shelter. Kentucky consistently lags behind other states in key household economic indicators, including personal income, population living below poverty line, unemployment, and revolving debt.
To educate community members about important financial matters such as developing a budget, identifying spending leaks, and setting SMART financial goals, the Caldwell County Family & Consumer Sciences agent partnered with the county Family Resource and Youth Services Center to offer a Making Your Money Work workshop for parents. Thirty-eight parents attended the workshop and were surveyed at the conclusion of the program.
95% of participants reported an increase in knowledge of financial management and plan to develop a budget. 92% plan to reduce spending leaks and set a SMART financial goal. 89% plan to use a calendar to keep track of due dates for bills. 97% plan to make at least one change in their spending habits.
