Success StoryEclipse Glasses

Eclipse Glasses

Author: Katie Hughes

Planning Unit: Union County CES

Major Program: Community Engagement

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Describe the Issue or Situation.

During the eclipse many of the towns had hosted events for people to watch the eclipse. Afterwards I saw where people could donate their glasses so others in South America could enjoy the upcoming eclipse. So I post out a flyer and ask the other agents in the office to share and promote donating used glasses to the extension office where then we would mail them to Eclipse Glasses USA.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

We had 335 people donate their glasses to the extension office and it also gave people within the community to come into the office and view the materials and newsletters we have for them to take home with them.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

335 eclipse glasses were brought in and donated to Eclipse Glasses USA.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

We had 335 people donate their glasses to the extension office and it also gave people within the community to come into the office and view the materials and newsletters we have for them to take home with them. And also allowed other people in South America to enjoy the eclipse as we did in Union County.

Picture is of a watch party we had at the extension office during the eclipse and all these glasses were donated.
