According to the 2023 KENTUCKY DIABETES REPORT, 13.8% of Kentucky adults has diabetes. 486,196 adults are reported to have diabetes. This rate is more than double of Kentucky adults who had diabetes in 2000. The diabetes rate in Appalachia is 16%. Kentucky has the 13th highest mortality rate from diabetes in the U.S.
The Dining With Diabetes program was offered to Hart County residents by the family consumer science agent. The program was open to the public. The program was offered on four different dates and had 31 different participants. The sessions consisted of lessons on Living with Diabetes, Carbs and Sweeteners, Fats and Sodium and Putting all the information together.
