Stuck in the Middle is another amazing opportunity for Middle School students to learn more about what 4-H has to offer while gaining leadership skills and teamwork. Stuck in the Middle is held at West Kentucky 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs and open to all Middle School youth in District Six and Seven.  The planning committee for 2018 was made up of Mackenzie Pogue (Muhlenberg), Ginny Harper (Calloway), Kelsey Chadwick (Carlisle), Kaitlyne Metsker (Christian) and Katie Jury (Hopkins).  A total of 79 youth attended with 21 volunteer adults. Out of the 79 youth, only 16 attended the year before. Hopkins County had 13 amazing middle school students that attended this wonderful event.  This is an increase from last year.  This gave an opportunity for new 4-H members to attend and be able to experience two days full of learning at 4-H Camp.

Some of workshops that the youth were able to participate in during the camp were photography, outdoor adventures, critters among us, breakout games and drone discovery. A benefit of having Stuck in the Middle at 4-H Camp, was getting more youth interested in attending the Summer Camp program.  Out of 79 youth, only 3 said that they would not attend the Summer Camp program. Another opportunity that Stuck in the Middle provided was to teach more middle school students about the Achievement Program and how they can apply themselves. With 79 youth attending, 66% had never applied for the Achievement Program, but after 59% said that they might in the future.  The last exciting part of the entire Stuck in the Middle Camp is that 86% made a new friend. This is sometimes difficult for youth to do especially in a new environment, but Stuck in the Middle provides opportunity for youth to meet other people.  The skills learned at Stuck in the Middle are ones that the youth can take with them in their daily life and many said that they would.
