Plan of Work: Leadership & Volunteerism

Outcome: Initial Outcome

KEHA is a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through  volunteer service, leadership development, and education. The organization operates in partnership with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. County Extension agents for Family and Consumer Sciences work closely with KEHA members and clubs to provide educational programming and coordinate community activities.

The Simpson County Extension Homemakers are an active group of volunteers that are a visible part of our community assisting with Extension Programs in the schools, Relay for Life, and providing meals at the local People Serving People outreach as well as participating in many other volunteer organizations.

This organization encourages leadership from its members.  Four Simpson County Homemakers serve on the Mammoth Cave Area Extension Homemakers Council, with one serving on the state Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association Council.

Volunteer service is a strong emphasis in KEHA.  Statewide, members reported more than 720,000 volunteer hours in 2024 in support of Extension and community projects with a value that exceeds $19.3 million to the Commonwealth.  The Simpson County members reported more than 28,401 volunteer hours impacting many Kentuckians.

Since 1977, KEHA has actively supported the University of Kentucky Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Donations in the 47-year history of this project total more than $1.6 million.
