Major Program: Artistic & Essential Skill Development

Plan of Work: Enhancing Life Skills and Building Consumer Awareness

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Greenup County Quilt Guild (GCQG) was established in 1983. Since that time, they have only been "loosely" affiliated with the Greenup County Extension Office. There were members who had been in leadership positions for many years who had an unwillingness to partner with Extension for leadership and administrative support. After the success, partnership, and growth of the Greenbo Quilt Show into a holistic event: Handcrafted Weekend, the Greenup County Community Arts Agent was invited to work on more projects with the guild. This relationship was cultivated throughout three projects: the permanent installation of custom quilts at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park's Lodge and the Greenup County Extension Office, the Greenup Old Fashion Days Quilt Show, and the creation of a club logo.

The GCQG currently has 37 members. The qualifications for membership was less than defined in the past. Therefore a process for yearly dues ($5 with scholarships available) and a membership form have been developed to be implemented in 2025. Members will be able to choose in-person or mailbox membership which allows the older or physically unwell members to stay informed and involved when they are not able to attend meetings or the sit-n-sew sessions. These changes are the result of updated bylaws and a newly elected president who is supportive of partnership and change.

Outreach is another part of guild membership that has been updated. The yearly dues will be used to fund outreach projects to be chosen by a committee. GCQG members will be encouraged to work together on an outreach project and will also report on their volunteer hours. The club secretary will track hours monthly and report yearly to the agent.

The GCQG has a strong past and is looking forward to an even stronger future. The volunteer leadership communicates regularly with the Community Arts Agent and submits the monthly business meeting agenda and minutes for office record. The agent is welcomed at business meetings and looked to for guidance in a positive manner. Member security, safety, activity, involvement, longevity, and leadership development have all become a higher priority along with the traditional skill development of quilting.
