In the heart of Lewis County, the annual Youth Agriculture Field Day unfolded, celebrating the vibrant spirit of local youth and honoring the memory of Phillip, a beloved community member who had a deep passion for agriculture. Third graders from all over the county gathered for a day filled with hands-on activities that ignited their curiosity and love for the land.
The day began with laughter and excitement as students lined up to milk a cow, their faces lighting up with every squirt of fresh milk. They eagerly sampled various types of milk, discovering flavors they had never imagined. With cowboy hats in hand, they decorated their hats, creating a playful atmosphere of creativity and fun.
As the sun shone brightly, the kids learned about sun safety, ensuring they understood the importance of protection while enjoying the great outdoors. They explored the local wildlife, identifying creatures that called Lewis County home, and marveled at a live honey bee hive, tasting sweet honey and honeycomb straight from the source.
The creativity continued as they made seed necklaces, a tangible reminder of the seed germination process. They even pedaled a smoothie bike, blending fruits for a nutritious snack while getting a workout. Laughter filled the air as they raced against each other to create the best smoothie.
Finally, the children gathered around various farm equipment, where they were thrilled to climb inside and learn how these machines work to help farmers like Phillip. Each activity was a step toward fostering their understanding of agriculture and community.
As the day drew to a close, the students left with full hearts and minds, inspired by their experiences and the legacy of Phillip. The Youth Agriculture Field Day had not only educated them about farming but also united the community in celebration of nature, health, and the joy of learning.
