Major Program: Agritourism Planning

Plan of Work: Enhance the Strong Agicultural and Natural Resource Base

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Lawrence County's 4-H and FFA programs provide essential opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on agricultural experience. With increasing demands on resources, these programs rely heavily on community support to sustain their activities. To meet these needs, a creative and engaging fundraising event was necessary to connect the community with the youth programs they value.

In response, the Harvest Moon Gala, a farm-to-table dinner, was created to raise funds for the Lawrence County 4-H and FFA programs. This event brought together local farmers, businesses, and community members for a night of celebration. Local farmers contributed fresh produce, and nearby businesses provided services like rentals, decor, and cooking. Youth from 4-H and FFA were integral to the evening’s success, serving a formal three-course dinner to the attendees and providing entertainment.

A total of 124 people attended the event, including 14 youth from both 4-H and FFA who took on leadership roles by serving food and entertaining the guests. The audience consisted of local community leaders, business owners, and supporters of agriculture, all united in their desire to invest in the future of these youth organizations.

The Harvest Moon Gala raised over $4,000 for the Lawrence County 4-H and FFA programs in the previous year, and this year’s event is expected to bring in even more support. Beyond fundraising, the event provided 4-H and FFA youth with an opportunity to build skills in event management, public speaking, and teamwork. The partnership with local farmers and businesses strengthened the community’s connection to agriculture while ensuring that vital educational programming and scholarships for youth continue. The event has become a cherished annual tradition, showcasing the power of community and agriculture coming together to support future generations.
