Monroe county adults reported that within the last 30 days 10 of those physical health days, including physical illness and injury was not good. With this high number, Family and Consumer Science agent Jamille Hawkins and Dyshel Thompson from the Monroe County Health department decided to partner with a program called Microclinic International. Microclinic International or MCI is based upon the principle of “a human network consisting of small groups of people who share access to education, technology, and social support as members work together to prevent and manage a deadly disease.” Starting with 22 participants on March 12, 2018 to June 25, 2018 Microclinic International programing addressed topics such as, blood pressure reading, healthy fats and oils, and such. Throughout this 16-week program, many changes happened. 80 percent of participants saw that their blood pressure lowered at the end of the programming. 60 percent of participants lost weight ranging from two to six pounds. Many of the participants noted that they are making healthier food choices, drinking more water, looking at labels while shopping, and have tried new recipes that they have never tried before. Due to their participation in Microclinic International.
