Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecologic malignancies in the United States.  This year over 22,280 new cases will be detected, and 14,240 women will die of the disease.  Women at highest risk to develop ovarian cancer are over the age of 50 or have a relative with ovarian cancer.  One of the Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association’s main health objectives has been to assist in funding ovarian cancer screening and research a the University of Kentucky.  As of May 2023, KEHA’s lifetime contribution to the program is more than $1.62 million.

In support of this cause, the Logan County Homemakers hosted an ovarian cancer fundraiser.  The theme of the event was “Support in Style” as the event included refreshments, basic information about ovarian cancer and the screening program and research offered through the University of Kentucky and a style show provided by local boutiques.

There were 82 attendees at the fundraiser event including a wide range of demographics from the all over the county.  The Logan County Homemakers were able to raise $1,235 to be donated to the ovarian cancer screening program at the University of Kentucky in hopes to help further the success of the screening and research program that is offered to women all across our great state of Kentucky.
