Major Program: Super Star Chef

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Hopkins County Nutrition education program along with the Family and Consumer Sciences agent with West Broadway Elementary and SouthSide elementary partnered to put on Super Star Chef camp to teach students how to prepare healthy meals. The program included week long of cooking classes, nutritional education, and hands-on cooking projects.

Students learned how to prepare a variety of healthy meals, from simple snacks to complete dinners.

The students increased healthy eating: There was a noticeable rise in students' preference for fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. One student shared, “I love cooking now! I feel confident making healthy meals for my family,” while another noted, “It’s fun to learn new recipes and eat what we make.”

Parents reported that their children were excited to help with cooking at home and were more willing to try new, healthier foods.

The Super Star Chef Program successfully empowered students with practical cooking abilities and fostered healthier eating habits both at school and at home.
