Major Program: Local Food Systems
Plan of Work: Creating awareness of the impact of agriculture on daily life
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Henderson Ag is strong and the local business community understands the importance of agriculture in our community both as an economic driver and for it’s cultural importance.
The local Chamber of Commerce organized an Agriculture Committee to help promote and support local producers. They called on Extension to help.
The Chamber Ag committee is responsible for planning and organizing the annual Farm to Table Dinner that highlights local produce growers. The producers are paired up with local restaurants to prepare unique entrees utilizing fresh, locally grown produce. In 2024, as with every year prior, we sold every seat. The money raised from ticket sales helps support marketing efforts for the local farmer’s market.
This year the Chamber Ag Committee held its 2nd annual Ag Trivia night. Held at our local winery, the ag trivia night is meant to educate the local community on the impact of agriculture in Henderson County. Local business’ sign up as a 6 person team to enjoy a night of trivia, food, and general fellowship. The local FFA Chapter helps develop the questions, all related to agriculture awareness. This year we sold out all tables and currently are looking for a larger venue.
Several other events such as the Farmer’s Sound Off, and the annual Ag Breakfast help to keep local business and citizens informed about the importance of agriculture and its impact on Henderson County. Combined, the Ag Committee’s annual events reach over 550 people. Henderson County Extension is proud to be a part of the planning and implementation of all events.
