Planning Unit: Ballard County CES

Major Program: Camping

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The problem

Youth need more positive opportunities for experiences to keep them busy, especially in the summer.

The educational program response

4-H Camp offers classes to build many soft skills as well as skills for fishing, archery, riflery, cooking, sports, engineering and much more.

The participants/target audience

4-Hers age 9 (or going in 4th grade) up to 14 are camper age. Older teens and adults serve in 4-H Camp Counselor leadership roles.

Other partners (if applicable)

In 2023 we set our new record for the number of youth we took to camp at 59. We had 15 counselors.  We had several on scholarship last year.

in 2024, we had 46 campers and 14 counselors.(We conflicted with a big church camp in our county this year.) We had 10 sponsors for camp donating over $6,000. We had 15 youth on scholarships out of 46, for 32.6% receiving scholarships.

Program impact or participant response.

We had a 75% return rate for campers this year and would have had more if we hadn't conflicted with a big church camp. We don't results from a formal survey yet, but the positive feed back from campers and counselors makes me feel the results will be positive.
