Clay County is a small rural county in Eastern Kentucky, families are encouraged to make choices to improve health and well-being, participate in physical activity. According to 2014 statistics 43% of Clay County is obese.


The Family and Consumer Science Agent is  a member of the Healthy Clay Committee and one of the original members for the ACHIEVE Grant. The committee has continued to provide leadership for health and physical activity, and community improvement through working together.


The committee developed a Pedestrian and Bike Plan approved by County government and ready to meet with City government, when the plan is approved by both it will provide additional grant opportunities for our county.  An assessment of the need was completed at a Get Moving Manchester Activity, news article written on the topic and newsletter articles.


We know we can educated the parents through education of the children a Mock Pedestrian and Bike Safety Activity and presentation was completed at Summer School with 23 students participating the day of the event but a total of 35 participating in some way. . The program meet STEM requirements, physical and art education requirements.  3 volunteers presented the program and 12 teachers or aides helped to coordinate program at school.
